Frequently Asked Questions
- 01Eve Soma is a space for developing a more connected relationship with your body and the ways it responds to stress, change and everyday life. Our bodies are constantly responding to what we experience. Sometimes that can look like tight shoulders, restless sleep, a racing mind, difficulty switching off, feeling constantly “on”, or simply finding it hard to settle and rest.Through body-based approaches including TRE® and Somatic Experiencing®, sessions invite you to slow down, notice what is happening in your body, and develop a greater sense of ease, awareness and choice in how you respond. You do not need to have a particular diagnosis, know exactly what is wrong, or have a history of trauma to benefit from this work. You can simply begin with what you are noticing now.
- 02Eve Soma is not psychotherapy or medical treatment. Sessions are not intended to diagnose or treat mental or physical health conditions. It is a body-focused approach that complements the ways you may already support your wellbeing. If you are receiving medical or mental health care, Eve Soma can sit alongside that support where appropriate.
- 03Tension & Trauma Release Exercises (TRE®) is a series of physical exercises designed to activate the body’s natural shaking and trembling response. This response is something the body already has — you may have noticed it after intense exercise, a stressful moment, or when your body is coming down from a heightened state. In TRE®, the exercises are used to gently invite this response in a controlled setting, allowing the body to discharge some of the physical tension and activation it may have been carrying. You don’t need to analyse where the tension came from or talk through difficult experiences for the practice to be useful. The exercises are simple and physical, and you remain in control throughout. Over time, TRE® can support a greater sense of physical ease, relaxation and awareness of your body.
- 04Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a body-oriented approach developed by Dr Peter Levine that works with the nervous system’s responses to stress and overwhelming experiences. Rather than asking you to revisit or analyse an experience in detail, SE pays attention to what is happening in your body in the present moment — such as changes in breathing, muscle tension, sensations, impulses, emotions or shifts between feeling activated and settled.A session might involve noticing a sensation, exploring a small movement or impulse, or gently going back and forth between moments of tension and moments of greater ease. This allows you to become more familiar with your body’s responses and, gradually, support the nervous system to move out of patterns of being continually on alert, shut down, or overwhelmed. You don't need to know exactly what's wrong, have a particular story to tell, or remember everything that has happened to you. The work starts with what you are noticing in your body now, and unfolds at a pace that feels manageable for you.
- 05Yes. You do not need to identify with trauma or have experienced a major traumatic event to explore this work. People come to Eve Soma for many reasons — from ongoing stress and physical tension to difficulty resting, feeling disconnected, or simply wanting to feel more at ease in themselves.
